Daniel Kilkelly from Digital Spy called it a show stopping performance. It was then said that Philips will become the first person to perform as two people, as while Liberty gets her big break, Phillips will also perform her own solo material. It will be my biggest audience to date so its a little scary but I just cant wait to get out there and perform. I hope the fans like the episode of Hollyoaks too. I love the idea of dropping in my scenes from T4OTB in episodes just two days later.
Its going to be tight but its all very exciting! Vye said "Its quite a casual relationship to begin with - she thinks about it more seriously than share a moment and realise something could happen between them. How will the McQueens react to their new housemates? Talking about Denniss relationship with Liberty, Tracini talked to Digital Spy in an interview saying, "Liberty loves him. On 13 July , executive producer Bryan Kirkwood announced that Liberty would be written out of Hollyoaks.
He explained that following her on-screen absence she will make a "brief return". Liberty secures a record deal and Dennis and Leanne hold a surprise leaving party for her. All of Libertys family attend, and Liberty later leaves for Los Angeles to follow her dream of becoming a singer. On 22 May , it was announced that Liberty would be reintroduced with the role being recast to Jessamy Stoddart.
A spokesperson for Hollyoaks confirmed the recasting: "Liberty later left Hollyoaks to pursue a music career in LA after landing a record deal, but the reality of the LA dream turned out to be a little less shiny than she had anticipated and its time to return home. She has missed her family and is excited to make up for lost time with Dirk and get to know her extended family better. Just like she did when she was younger, she will be the glue that holds the family together.
Porter Theresa praised both the characters of Ethan and Liberty for being introduced saying,"Yeah, its been really good. When new people start, you remember what it was like for you when you first joined the show and all of the new things you experienced.
You feel for them as well, because theyve come into a big crowd of people and they dont know anyones name. Craig and Abi have been fun to work with.
In , Jessamy was nominated for best newcomer at the Inside Soap Awards. Facebook Twitter. Fearing Will would kill Ash, Anna tried to contact him and left a message on Ash's phone saying "he killed Texas and I think he's going to kill again". Will drugged Ash and stole her visitor's pass to gain entry to the hospital. Will drowned Anna in a bath of water, after discovering that his mother loved her ex-husband, Patrick as well as Dodger and Sienna, more than Will's father Dirk and Dirk and Anna's kids.
However, Will was seen escaping from the murder scene by Patrick. Will became very controlling of Ash after he noticed some mild flirting between her and Dodger, prompting Will to become very jealous. After some arguments, the two agreed to get married. Leah Barnes witnessed Will hiding Anna's locket in a vent in Ash's house and informed Ash - effectively confirming Ash's suspicions that Will could indeed walk.
She confronted him about it, and he revealed that it was he who killed Texas and Anna. She attempted to escape but Will pinned her down and tried to strangle her, however stopped after Ash tells him that she loves him. Dodger walked in and Ash ran to him, revealing everything Will had done. Just then, an explosion in the flat below from a bomb detonated by Clare Devine ripped through the house, killing Ash.
Dodger had a stand off with Will and disowned him, before being crushed by a pile of rubble. He asked Will to help him, as there was more rubble waiting to fall. However, Will had no mercy on Dodger and the roof collapsed on Dodger. Will carried Ash from the building, and was seen walking by his dad, though he returned to his wheelchair, lying that it was 'survival instinct' that let him walk.
Will later attempted to suffocate Dodger in hospital, but he was interrupted by Dirk. He was unable get hold of Sienna, not realising she was already there with Tom Cunningham , who she was kidnapping to keep her fake pregnancy a secret. When Sienna heard a thud upstairs, she went to investigate - only to find the hostages. She went to find a gun, but the noise she was making alerted Will, who went to investigate.
Sienna attempted to free the hostages, but Will returned and overpowered her, taking the gun she had found off of her. Martha managed to untie her bonds and stood up, confronting Will. Will decided to let her go after realising she meant nothing to Dodger, however after she disappeared from sight, a shot is heard, and Will revealed he shot her after she tried to run away.
Unbeknownst to Will, she survived and managed to call the police. Dodger arrived at the house after reporting Will to the police, and found that Will had taken the family hostage. When Patrick managed to untie his bonds, he stood up and pretended that he was going to kill Dodger so Will's plan would be useless, but after Will heard sirens, he fled through the house with Dodger in pursuit. They had a big confrontation on the rooftop over how Will killed Texas and Anna.
Will fell off the roof, clinging to the edge. Dodger tried to save him, but Will intentionally pulled him off of the roof, and they both plummeted to the ground. They both survived, but after Will unintentionally broke Dodger's fall by hitting the ground first, he ended up actually paralysed. He was then loaded into an ambulance, before being charged with murder and remanded in custody until the trial. A year later, Will wrote to Dirk from prison, asking Dirk to visit him.
Patricks abusive nature was first revealed, during the casting of Anna Blake Saskia Wickham, where it was revealed that Anna would tell her children that Patrick was an abusive partner, and that is why she ran away with Dodger.
Patricks abusive nature is then seen, when he intimidates Anna into scaring away Dodger and Sienna by claiming that she doesnt know who her real children actually are. Jeremy Sheffield said of his abuse toward Anna that dominance is what Patrick "strives for in all of his relationships and all aspects of his life", and commented that his character saw this as "completely normal" instead of abusive. After initially being nice toward Maxine, Patrick eventually started showing his sinister side toward her by first reveling in her failure as a coffee shop manager, before grabbing her wrist as he feels that he had embarrassed him due to her trying to dance with him.
Daniel Kilkelly wrote, how this would look set to create problems for the couple over the coming weeks. It was announced on 22 October that Patrick would start domestically abusing Maxine after discovering her one-night stand with Patricks son, Dodger. Nikki Sanderson, who plays Maxine, commented that the storyline had been subtlety brewing over the past few months with Patrick buying her house, alienating her from her friends and forcing her to quit her job.
Sanderson later commented in an interview that Patrick twists it in his head to make it Maxines fault so that he may feel remorse, but not blame.
Later when Maxine fell pregnant, Patrick continued his abuse against her with Sanderson commenting that "Just because Maxine is expecting a baby, it doesnt mean the abuse will stop. Its a horrible situation. Jeremy Sheffield commented that whilst he is using emotional blackmail, the breakdown is "genuine".
He also reveals that the reason Patrick abuses his partners is because "everybody he loves leaves him. Whenever hes close to anyone he has to be in control of them because he has too much fear hell be rejected. Christian Today reported that the domestic abuse storyline "should challenge us all" it was also written "Hollyoaks couple Maxine Minniver and Patrick Blake are at the centre of what has been described as "one of the UK Soaps darkest storylines".
During the storyline, several adverts, both digital and radio, were produced to highlight the issue of domestic violence. The soap also created a timeline on their official Facebook page to highlight key moments in the storyline. Lee Mason, the drama commissioning editor at Channel 4, commented that the aim of the adverts was to "help broaden the awareness of the This Is Abuse campaign with our younger audience.
The adverts intention was to highlight that rape can happen within relationships, with Crime Prevention Minister Norman Baker saying that the advert "will encourage teenagers to re-think their views about rape, consent, violence and abuse.
Its vital that we get the message across that it isnt right. On 29 March , it was announced that an upcoming storyline would see Patrick diagnosed with the incurable condition of motor neuron disease. Patrick would reveal his condition to his secretary, Theresa McQueen Jorgie Porter in emotional scenes airing in early April. Prior to the announcement, it was shown on-screen that Patrick was hiding a medical condition, after threatening Dr.
Charles Savage Andrew Greenough. Patrick will choose to keep the truth over his condition a secret from Maxine so that he does not ruin his chances of securing custody of their daughter, Minnie. As the storyline continues, Patrick will find the secret very hard to keep.
It was also announced that following the conclusion of the storyline, Sheffield would be leaving the programme as Patrick will die. However, producers arent revealing when and how Patrick leaves. Motor neurone disease is a disorder that heavily affects the brain and spinal cord and attacks the movement nerves. It will leave Patrick unable to move, talk, and after a period of time, breathe. Sheffield spoke about how "honoured" he was to be involved in some of the shows biggest storylines and how he wishes Patricks new storyline will "captivate peoples hearts and minds.
Having seen his father deteriorate and die of the same illness, he is unable and unwilling to fully accept the truth. He endeavours to keep his diagnosis secret, as admitting the truth could jeopardise his chance of getting full custody of his beloved baby daughter Minnie. Working with the Motor Neurone Disease Association has proved invaluable for researching this role.
Following on from the success of the Ice Bucket Challenge last summer and the film release of The Theory of Everything, Im sure that Hollyoaks will show the reality of living with MND on the small screen too.
Its vital that we educate a young audience. Some of them will have done the Ice Bucket Challenge and now through the drama unfolding week by week will realise the devastating impact of MND and just why that was so important. I know of a family that sadly has experience of losing someone to MND and who has already recognised the subtle symptoms in Patrick as MND, which shows just how realistic Jeremys portrayal is. It can also be noted that Patrick is the first ever soap character to have Motor Neurone as well as the first soap character to die from it.
In the Hollyoaks Autumn trailer it shows Patrick asking Maxine to help him die. Sheffield said of his character that he was originally just seen as Dodgers dad, although eventually people started referring to him as Patrick Blake.
He also said that people were picking up on the subtle hints that Patrick wasnt going to be a nice character. A reporter writing for the Inside Soap Yearbook included Patricks return as a "vision" in their "A to Z" list of , adding that "imaginary dead pals were all the rage in ! For his portrayal of Patrick, Jeremy Sheffield was nominated for several awards.
Sheffield was put on the longlist and the shortlist for the British Soap Awards for Best Actor, although he lost to David Neilson.
In the Inside Soap Awards , Sheffield was placed on the longlist for Best Bad Boy, and Patrick and Maxines domestic abuse storyline was placed on the longlist for Best Storyline, both were also placed onto the shortlist. Whilst the domestic abuse storyline won, Sheffield lost out his award to Marc Baylis.
