Esp what is it

Will Jul 25, I've observed an expression of ESP in myself that is somewhat ridiculous, but I find it amazing, and it causes me to wonder at the potential of the human mind. Sometimes I play a video game called Skyrim.

It's pretty popular so I'm guessing most people who read this have at least heard of it. I noticed I was able to predict something random within the game with pin-point accuracy. I have tested this experience with ESP dozens of times, and found it to be completely reliable. It's a bit difficult to explain, but within the game is a task called "lock-picking".

When a player is engaged in lock-picking, the screen goes into a special mode showing a generic image of a lock with two prongs inserted into it.

The player is able to manipulate the prongs, and must attempt to find a sweet spot where the prongs can be twisted to pick the lock. As I said, the image of the lock and pick is generic. There are no variations of any kind, on any scale, from one lock to another. There are no sounds to indicate any information about an individual lock. I've found I'm able to "instinctively" KNOW, exactly where the sweet spot is on these locks, even when the margin of error is literally less than half of a millimeter.

What's amazing to me about this, is that my brain is somehow able to perceive a computer generated random contingency with absolute unfailing precision. There is no physical component in any form to give away an indication of where the "sweet spot" is.

I had always assumed the perceived occurrences of ESP were actually just difficult to notice physical perceptions, like faint sounds or sensing minuet differences in atmospheric pressure.

The video game is designed for the player to have to randomly guess different locations on the lock and use trial-and-error to pick the locks. Though this is difficult to articulate, I can almost physically "feel" their locations in my mind. Besides this being personally fascinating, I think it is scientifically significant because it can be tested and observed. Jul 27, Peter Jul 10, Im always indoors doing things such as playing videogames, though when I go outside I always think of something and 5 minutes later it happens.

Such as me thinking of something out of the ordinary like how hard it is to knit, and then about 30 seconds later my mum would start talking about knitting even though I was only think about it. Or we could be driving and I would be think of how much a lambo or something costs and 1 minute later we drive by a lambo store and my dad starts talking about how good lambos are.

I don't know if I have esp or if these are all coincidences. Jul 11, Maeley Feb 10, I seriously think I have it I have Deja's vu a lot and one time my teacher made a seating chart and I had a feeling I was going to set by a certain person and I did! Feb 9, Feb 8, Thanks for sharing your connection, Andrew! Marife Jan 23, Seen some premonitions or future sights even seeing some past events which I'm not present.

Had a hard time knowing the base truth of existence of events but seeing directly in mind. Hope you can help me recognize that kind of visions or perceptions to know if really had I possess an ESP. Jan 25, Does ESP mean you can receive messages of what people think of you?

Because, I've been able to receive messages and thoughts about me that others have been thinking about. I can also feel very strong negative and happy energies. Dec 14, Mimi66fab5 Aug 4, What an interesting concept.

Sometimes I have dreams about what is going to happen the next day , but I think the idea of ESP is so surreal that maybe I'll put it down to the scientific explanation! Aug 4, Shayak Chakrabarti Jun 30, Must be something about knitting or crocheting in the middle of a storm. Jul 1, Rebecca S. Mar 15, Does this mean that psychics are real?

It can't be. Or can it? Wonderopolis Mar 19, Trinity Nov 13, Why do people like me, with precognition, have deja vu? Do certain spirit animals help you see the future? What are the four spirit animal guides?

Wonderopolis Nov 14, Kennedy F. May 7, Have you ever had a dream but when you wake up something similar happens or when you have thought something and it happens just a little bit later?

I've done that but I never really thought about it so it's nice to read about it. Thank you wonderopolis! Wonderopolis May 7, Kim Apr 30, Wonderopolis Apr 30, Rowan Mar 9, I have ESP! Background Knowledge I knew that E. I learned that E. I also learned that you could test it by using Zener cards. The people who test E. Sometimes my family thinks I am psychic because sometimes I know when things are going to happen before they happen. Are there ways to predict the future scientifically? I think wonder will be about the smallest game in the world. Wonderopolis Dec 14, Wonderopolis Sep 12, I think I have a small case of ESP but no promises of course :.

Aug 22, If you remember me, Maxine, probably not, but my dad knows this card trick, and it claims you have 'ESP. He mixes them up, the red turns into the black, the black into the red, and in the end you get all of them right!!! I'm still trying to figure out how he does it!

Wonder Friend Aug 22, Hi Wonderopolis Me and my friend were siting here watching this. That is really cool, I didn't know people could do that.

Stephens' Class Aug 22, The majority of our class thinks that ESP is real.

We will access our ESP by saying that the wonderopolis will be about tornadoes. I am always getting my visions in my dreams. It's ironic because last night I had one and I told my sister about it today. By the way, people in the comments section are always saying what they think it's gonna be about, but how do they get their hypothesis?

I guess it's ESP! Zachary Aug 22, Hi, my name is Zach, and I believe I have precognition. I have had many experiances that were just like I knew they would be!! The term "extrasensory perception" was not widely used until the s, when Duke University psychologist J.

Rhine opened a lab devoted to studying the sixth sense. Rhine became famous for his work with decks of "Zener cards," each of which was marked with one of five symbols. He would flip through a deck containing 25 of these cards and have study participants identify the symbol on each without seeing the card itself, according to the American Psychological Association.

Based on this result, he surmised that he had found evidence for ESP, Terence Hines wrote in the book " Pseudoscience and the Paranormal " Prometheus, Rhine's research, which he published in a book titled "Extrasensory Perception" Boston Society for Psychic Research, , generated both criticism and interest.

One review of the book, published that same year in the journal Nature , insinuated that Rhine's strong belief in ESP might have biased his results. But Rhine's research also fueled the growth of the new field of parapsychology. In , he formed the Parapsychological Association , an organization devoted to studying psychic experiences, which still exists today.

Related: Are ghosts real? Since parapsychology took off, some scientists have devoted their careers to investigating the existence of ESP. Today, ESP research appears alongside orthodox psychology research in high-profile, peer-reviewed journals, including American Psychologist and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Many of these studies appear to provide evidence for the existence of ESP. In the s, researchers began conducting ganzfeld experiments , in which participants would sit in darkened rooms with their eyes covered, listening to white noise.

The goal was to deprive the participants of sensory stimuli, making it easier to focus on ESP messages. The researchers would ask participants to focus on whatever images floated into their minds while a "sender," sitting in another room, viewed a "target" video clip or image and attempted to transmit the information to the participant.

Afterward, the study participants would view a set of images, one of which was the target. If they selected the target image, it was considered a "hit. One of the best-known and most controversial figures in ESP research today is Daryl Bem, a professor of psychology at Cornell University. In , he published a paper in The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology that appeared to demonstrate evidence for precognition, or the ability to predict the future. He conducted nine standard psychological experiments, with well-established psychological effects — but did them in reverse.

Cards used in experiments investigating whether ESP exists. Those who ignore the evidence and insist that ESP is a real, natural phenomenon fail to meet one of the key aspects of scientific behavior: assimilating the evidence. In this case, ESP is not "natural" in a scientific sense, and thus cannot be studied with the tools of science. Does psi exist? Lack of replication of an anomalous process of information transfer.
